Fun at Igloo Letterpress

A few months ago I attended an Intro to Letterpress class at Igloo LetterPress in Worthington. The shop is cute and packed full of old and new wood type, lead type and beautiful paper. It’s a print designers dream. Allison Chapman (owner) was a great teacher and host. She really opened up her studio to the class and let us look around while providing insightful historical facts and tricks of the trade throughout the projects. The class was small (only 4 people) enough for everyone to easily see the demos and spend a fair amount of time on the press. We set our own type for some stationary without the help of a computer. My stationary said I LOVE BANJO. We also printed covers for our own notebook and learned a binding technique.

The greatest part of the class was seeing how much passion Allison had for printing. As she talked about her education and past projects, I really got the sense that she cared for her clients work as much as they did. As a designer here in Columbus it is great to know that I have access to such a fabulous place and great people to work with. I will defiantly be using them on some projects in the future.

Check them out for yourself, online or in person. I highly recommend one of their classes.
